I live by the the words “Follow Your Fear” it’s a derivative of Follow the Fear which was said by Del Close (A big contributor to modern improvisation and comedy) who trained some of the greatest comedic minds of our time including Bill Murray, Adam McKay, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey and many others. I trained at the same institutions as these giants and there is a mind set that comes from this particular note. For me it means doing the next thing that I am afraid of doing whether it be emotional, intellectual, or physical fear. It means standing up for things when all I feel like doing is hiding. It means being strong in ways that may be perceived as weak. Vulnerability is the ultimate source of fear. It is when I choose to be vulnerable that the biggest growth happens. My favorite quote is “Our Deepest Fear” by Marianne Williamson, it’s quite lengthy, but its powerful and have had a tremendous impact on my life. Our Deepest Fear By Marianne Williamson “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness That most frightens us. We ask ourselves Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small Does not serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking So that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, As children do. We were born to make manifest The glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; It’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we’re liberated from our own fear, Our presence automatically liberates others.” Read more>>
