We’ve been fortunate to connect with so many brilliant, thoughtful entrepreneurs and creatives and we regularly ask them about the most important lessons they’ve learned over the course of their careers. We’ve shared some highlights below.

Fernanda Alvarez | Chef & PR strategist

I’ve been in the food industry for 15+ years and this year I discovered the magic behind empowering each other. As a latina and business owner I have a bug challenge ahead. First, because I decided to have a plant-based business in a country that is not my hometown. I’ve come to realize that i am being part of the change and this needs to be empowered and powerful to others in the same movement. I am also a huge community empowerer. That all started when i found my place in this country after 7 years of living here. Big part of that was having my business (Manna Life Food, Miami & Cooking Classes by La Healthy Mexicana). I am a huge advocate for latinxs making it outside their countries and those who are changing the world “una planta at a time” just like me, therefore, when one grows, we all grow. Read more>>

Slow Down! I have always been a “go-getter” my whole life, working toward the next thing. I feel it has been something that has helped me be successful in building my business, however in the therapy room, it doesn’t work this way. My clients have taught me the importance of slowing down, being present and trusting the process. You really can’t rush it in therapy, or it just won’t work. It’s been amazing to witness the shifts that occur in these moments. That the power to have anything you desire is inside of YOU! Only you know the dreams and capabilities you have and if you keep pushing forward and push past the fear of uncertainty, you can reach the stars. It’s not always sunshine and rainbows even if social media splashes that across your pages. It’s hard work, EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. for every business owner! It’s connecting with new people and putting yourself outside of your comfort zone. I’ve learned that not everyone wants you to succeed and the best thing to do is listen to advice but not always take it. You are in control and when you realize your worth, everything shifts. I’ve also learned to always be humble and kind even when clients are asking for discount after discount. It doesn’t mean you have to give it but you can nicely explain why you’re worth the rates your charging. Some will appreciate it and others will not. Move on, you can’t please everyone. Read more>>

Jessica Weiss Levison | Founder & CEO

Jump! When you believe in something so deeply and it brings you enormous joy – jump! Throughout my three different careers, I may not have had all the details figured out but I pursued vocations that brought me joy. That naïveté and blind ambition took me in directions that I could have never planned. For example, I could have never predicted that pursuing my passion for ice cream would lead me to launch a national ice cream company that was featured on The Today Show and sold in over 1,500 retailers – all in our first year. The most important lesson my career has taught me is that you lose 100% of the shots you don’t take. The answer ultimately might be no or the attempt might be unsuccessful, but it is always important to put forth your best effort. If you are passionate about something, you will find a way to make it happen. Read more>>
