We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Brittingham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrew, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think that in our lives it is very important to take risk Because it challenges and strengthens us through our own personal journey. One of the biggest risk I took in my life was changing a 16 year career in bank management to follow my passion in fashion as a personal stylist, having no experience at all. My family thought I was out of my mind to leave a stable career and take a 70% pay cut in my early 30’s to pursue an industry I knew nothing about. And now, it’s been 5 years, and I’m making the income I would be still making as a bank manager and then some and I’m the happiest ever being able to share my personal esthetic with others and assisting them to discovering their own.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a personal stylist who not only helps you find the right outfits that suit you. But also teach you how to play with colors, texture; and mixing many looks in one to create your own. I also utilize these skills to help you bring color and design into your home. My goal is not to have my clients rely on me when it comes to dressing themselves, rather make your understand ways to build looks that work best for you without questioning it. To a level where you won’t need me anymore and you can spread the teachings to others.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Wow, there would be so much. I would start by bringing them to Wynwood in Miami where they would be able to see so the unique art, fashion, and home decor in south Florida. Then drive down to the most southern tip in the United States, key west, where you could find some of the most delicious food in Florida, and one of the best dessert spots (Better than sex). For night life I would bring them back up north to Wilton manors, Fort Lauderdale where you would find some of the best dance clubs in south Florida. And end out trip with some shopping therapy at the Aventura Mall, Sawgrass outlets, and a touch of the 5th Avenue of the south (where I work) Boca town center.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shout out and thank you to Bloomingdales in king of Prussia, PA for giving a young man, who had no idea what he was doing, a chance to show a skill he didn’t realize he had within their corporation. My wonderful visual boss Candra, who pushed me to the extreme because she new the great impact I could give to others. My closest friends John and Dana for being my first style clients who kept an open mind when assisting with their own personal style. My Auntie Eileen who open my eyes to my true talent. And my wonder Aunt Lisa, who no matter what everyone else said, encouraged me to keep pursuing my dream!
