We had the good fortune of connecting with Eileen Somerville and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eileen, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Absolutely. Maybe I’m naive, but ever since I was young I have always envisioned myself helping people by caring for them and listening, and I believed that doing that would somehow make the world better. When I thought about becoming a therapist, I always felt it would be an important position to hold in someone’s life. Now that I have been a therapist for over 16 years, I am assured that this career is not just a job or a way to make money, but really it is such an honored calling, because I am able to be a part of someone’s life and journey. I feel I make a difference because I walk clients through some of the most important times in their lives and some of the most difficult ones too. I like to think that even subtle positive changes in someone’s life can impact other people, which can in turn impact others and so on and so forth. I know that by helping one person achieve a goal, attain more inner healing, or follow more of their desires, they can show up in their family, community, and the world in a more authentic way. I have seen profound ripple effects from therapy personally in my own life and certainly in my clients, so I know that it is life changing work. Therapy is powerful and it is a great way to not only improve yourself but influence those around you. It has been said that there is no such thing as one way liberation, so when a person is free from whatever is holding them back, naturally it allows for more freedom for everyone. Therapy is an invitation to magnify strengths and minimize pain. It is a celebration of life and potential and also a grief of hardship, with a supportive person by your side along the way. I feel that my business is providing laughter and perspective to my clients and I take pride in that daily.

The impact that my business makes is why Journey To Truth Counseling LLC was created, so that as a therapist I could see and help more clients via telehealth in a more efficient manner. My mission is to provide a counseling experience where individuals can work on setting goals for their lives with support every step of that way, without restrictions related to travel or disability. I am dedicated to helping my clients navigate challenges and empower them to lead fulfilling lives. My work is focused on promoting mental wellness and personal growth, and I tailor my approach to meet the unique needs of each individual that makes the brave choice to begin working on themselves.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business being a licensed mental health therapist/addiction specialist in private practice, means I see clients weekly and devote myself to providing one on one therapy sessions. As a psychotherapist, I know my purpose is to guide, motivate, and empower clients to become a better version of themselves. My work is to facilitate positive changes by asking the right questions and being curious, essentially seeking truth. Truth is integral to genuine and lasting change and that is why it is at the heart (and name) of this counseling private practice.

My role is to help illicit personal growth for clients I work with, by educating and encouraging them to look within themselves for answers they may have previously neglected. In my work, I aim to help clients become more self aware, identify their emotions, and apply coping skills towards life issues. I am passionate about supporting people, and am determined to ensure that all my clients experience a respectful, safe, and genuinely caring environment.
I believe that therapy can be fun. It can be both enjoyable and productive. Therapy is a journey worth taking because a better you is worth the time and energy it will take, every-time.

My background has not always been in private practice however, I worked in treatment centers for over a decade where substance abuse and mental health were co-occurring. It wasn’t always easy, that population was a challenge because people struggling with addiction can be adverse to getting help at times. Now the challenge is different, and it is based more so around ensuring I am optimizing ways to market myself. I’ve learned that being authentic and trusting the process from a business stand point is important.

I think the biggest thing I want the world to know about me is I am honest, I am caring, and I am committed to my clients. I think my clients would vouch for the fact that they know I am always in their corner and that they can trust me to be there for them. I often reach out to previous clients even after therapy has ended because I believe a therapeutic relationship is life long.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As a mom my idea of fun has changed in recent years though I still love to have a good time. I’d like to say that we would spend the week hanging out at Fort Lauderdale Beach during the day. We would definitely do a few hot yoga classes and workout at the gym and grab some boba tea. We would most likely hit the Ave in Delray and check out the scene at night. I would have to take her to some great restaurants in Fort Lauderdale (Casablanca, Yolo etc.) and Miami for some dancing! Cuban food would be a must as well as Colombian food. I would make some time for a night at Mizner Park in Boca Raton for some outdoor live music and places to eat as well. Also, we would hit a farmer’s market, do Top Golf, or maybe hit an arcade bar. Finally, we would absolutely have to hit one of the better dessert shops like Just Baked Boca. I love food so we wouldn’t go wrong anywhere in South Florida.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would say that when cultivating a company and establishing an identity as a therapist, you learn from so many people. I always think of writers and podcasters that have given me inspiration. Truthfully there are plenty and too many to list, but know that I am inspired by spiritual gurus, philosophers, and poets, not solely people in the psychology field (though they have been obviously instrumental). Family and friendship have been a great support and have always been very important too, for without them I would not have had the resources to pursue the path I have.
