We had the good fortune of connecting with Pauline Block and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pauline, every day, we think about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
In 2017, the Tubbs Fire ravaged Sonoma County, claiming my home among the casualties. What started as a terrible tragedy, turned into an opportunity to create something new. Sometimes life points you in a direction and it’s up to you to take the steps.

I’ve always joked that we [my mom, dad and I] needed to start a business because of the immense amount of talent my parents have mixed with my love for design. During the rebuilding process in 2019, as I designed my new home, I asked my my parents to help make some items I couldn’t find elsewhere reasonably priced, or well enough made. When friends and family started asking about some of the items my parents were making for my rebuilt home, I knew that thought could turn into a reality. In addition to that, I really needed something to focus on, that I enjoyed, that was separate from my role as a mother, employee, wife or friend. The turning point occurred when my father and I separately talked about naming their hypothetical business after my 2 children by combining their middle names: Peyton & Kane.

When the pieces all fit together, there is a beautiful effect that cannot be ignored. This is the philosophy from which Peyton Kane was founded; it is the philosophy of how the exceptional quality products are created; and it is the philosophy applied to all of our designs.

What matters most to us is creating products and designs that bring joy and have the highest possible quality and value for people. If it isn’t accomplishing that, we won’t do it. And if we don’t find our own joy in creating it, we won’t do it. Peyton Kane was founded on shared passions and creating spaces that bring joy. We intend to keep that family tradition alive within our personal family and with the family we are creating at our company.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Absolutely! Peyton Kane Home is a women-owned, home decor company based in Sonoma County, CA. We are all about exceptional quality – from our products to our service. We are most well-known for our gorgeous pillow covers and hand-turned kitchen utensils (the best gift items ever!). Our collections are modern, timeless and easy to pair together to create your signature look. We love helping our clients achieve the perfect vibe for their space.

Every item is handmade by our family, or by another family around the globe. We’ve recently partnered with a family in Ghana to bring beautiful, hand-woven baskets to the US. By partnering with others who have high quality expectations, we are able to offer a great selection of products while also supporting other small business owners.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
