We had the good fortune of connecting with Rosa Colon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rosa, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Life is all about taking risks. Is it scary? YES! But worth taking if it will somehow potentially benefit the company. As a first-time business owner, one does not expect the challenges and downfalls but, it is all part of the journey like Jimmy Duggan once stated, “it’s supposed to be hard, if it were easy, everyone would do it.” Risk-taking has made me a stronger person. I have learned from my experiences that one negative review out of one thousand good reviews shouldn’t be a reason I should question my success and let it negatively affect my whole day. Instead, realize that it isn’t possible to satisfy every single person, and it is ok. There were situations that at first made me very sad, confused, and frustrated, thinking I was not good enough after gathering all my thoughts and talking to my support system, it only made me make better decisions. Failing sounds like a horrible word but, without it, we won’t grow.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I use to be an international flight attendant, this all changed after the beginning of 2020 when the pandemic started. I was furloughed and my life completely changed. During all this free time I got into manifesting and meditating more. If you are familiar with astrology you would be familiar with new moons which are the nights that are best for manifesting. On a night of a new moon, not knowing anything about baking, just following a few famous cookie companies on Instagram, I had set my intentions for success. The next morning I woke up with intense energy wanting to open a cookie business. I have never been a sweets person but I was always a Cookie Monster! I called my sister (Stephanie Colon) a graphic and textile designer to see if she can design my logo, a million thanks to her she got everything done in less than an hour. I then started researching the best ways to make a FAT cookie, after many trials and errors I perfected it the way I wanted my unique cookies to be. Not long after, I launched my website also designed by my very talented sister and customers from famous cookie companies were sending me messages that mine blew them out of the park! That only inspired me to get even more creative with my flavors. 5 months into the company a producer from Channel 7 news (Deco Drive) named Samantha Kobrin, reached out to film a segment, which was such an exciting experience for Kukie Munchster. Getting to where I am right now was not easy and it’s still not easy, there are so many hours of work that has to be put into this and sometimes I am up 20 plus hours prepping for big events. I appreciate every and any mistake because it only teaches me to do better. A great way I cope with challenges is first telling someone close to me and then just taking the rest of the day off having a glass of wine and rest to reset and jump back to it the next day. I’m a very positive person, and I think that even if you have competition, everyone still has room to succeed without having to hate on one other. There is so much room for growth for everyone in this world, so if you have an idea in mind, then why not make it your reality?
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I like areas that don’t get too crowded, living in Miami you would think it is nearly impossible to find quiet relaxing places but I promise you there is! The perfect itinerary to show my best friend around town would start by having brunch in Wynwood, located in Downtown, Miami this place is always so trendy with amazing food, music and ambiance. After a fun brunch I would go to either a fun museum or a relaxing spa. I love spas and I have found my favorite one which is locating inside the Intercontinental hotel. After this relaxing time, we would go for dinner most likely my favorite (Sushi) and finish off with watching the sunset at the beach.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family has been my number one support system, along with my friends. When things go wrong, they are the ones that I turn to, they snap me back into reality and remind me how far I’ve come and how amazing my product is, honestly it’s so important to have at least one person you can express yourself to. I always look back to inspirational figures like Elon Musk, Andy Jassy, Colonel Harland Sanders, they’re great examples of powerful and successful individuals that never gave up when they had it bad. It only reminds me that with hard work, anything is possible it just takes time.
