We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Remijio and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vanessa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I noticed that there was a missing element in my community-a space that truly embodied authenticity and offered a distraction-free environment- I felt compelled to step in. I observed that while many businesses had adopted the latest trends and noise of mainstream wellness culture, they lacked the genuine connection to quality and purpose that I knew was essential. After concluding that not every studio was truly committed to the art and integrity of its work, I recognized an opportunity to create something different.

I wanted to offer a place where individuals could feel at ease, where every detail was intentionally crafted to foster wellbeing and empowerment. The idea was to move away from the clutter of over-stylized trends and instead focus on cultivating an atmosphere that respected the essence of the work and the unique needs of the community. This led me to start my own business, where the focus is not only excellence in service but also nurturing a space that truly values how people feel from the moment they arrive to the moment they leave.

My journey into entrepreneurship was driven by a desire to fill a void-a commitment to creating an environment that speaks to authenticity, quality, and a sustainable approach to wellbeing, echoing the core values that inspire me.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I take immense pride in what I’ve built with Springs & Slings Pilates. Creating a space that not only teaches Classical Pilates at the highest level but also fosters a community of compassion, kindness and wellbeing is something I am deeply passionate about. The most rewarding part of this journey has been seeing my clients transform- not just physically in how they move, but how they feel, and how they connect to their own bodies. Pilates, when taught with precision and understanding, is life-changing, and being able to facilitate that kind of lasting impact is what keeps me inspired.

That being said, running a small business is not easy. There have been challenges, unexpected turns, and moments that required me to pivot and adapt quickly. As an instructor, educator and a business owner, I wear many hats, and time is my most valuable asset. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to delegate-identifying areas where my time is best spent and allowing professionals to handle things that aren’t in my wheelhouse. Once I embraced this, everything changed. It allowed me to focus on what truly matters: teaching, mentoring, and building a strong, supportive community.

What I want the world to know about Springs & Slings Pilates is that this is not just a place to work out-it’s a place to refine, to learn, and to truly understand movement. My approach to teaching is never one-size-fits-all. I teach the body before me, recognizing that every person requires something different each time they step into the studio. My method is intentional not reductionistic, because the body doesn’t work in isolated parts- it functions as a whole. I don’t teach a list of exercises; I use my experience, my trained eye, and my deep understanding of movement patterns to determine what each student needs to create lasting, meaningful change. This is what sets my work apart. Not every teacher has the ability to see how a body compensates and what apparatus or exercise best suits them. Through years of working with numerous clients and my ongoing commitment to learning, I’ve honed that skill. This is what makes Springs & Slings Pilates more than just a studio-it’s a place where real transformation happens.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend was visiting Miami for a week, I’d curate an itinerary that blends the vibrant culture, breathtaking views, and a touch of the intimate experiences that make the Magic City so unforgettable. We’d begin our exploration by taking in the Miami skyline from the water- a boat tour that offers a unique, fun perspective of what Miami has to offer. While cruising along, we’d disembark at Casa Neos for a delicious lunch or if we wanted to take in the panoramic views from the bay to the sea we’d stop into Klaw rooftop. To keep the vibe going we’d head downstairs to Casa Donna to people watch and take in the scene before hopping back on the boat.

The next day of activities may go a little something like this…Walk along the beach boardwalk before dipping our toes in the sand and diving into the mesmerizing turquoise waters. For brunch we’d then go to one of my favorite Miami staples: Pastis in Wynwood before making our way over to the Perez Art Museum for a dose of culture and the arts.

As the day transitions to evening, the options are endless: a rooftop dinner under the stars or a cozy indoor setting at Catch Miami. A pre-dinner drink or nightcap at the Four Season’s Champagne Bar for a touch of luxury before catching a show at the Bandshell in the Surfside neighborhood.

If the night calls for a more intimate or energetic vibe, spots like Dante’s Hifi or Casa Tua offer the perfect backdrop to let loose and bust out some dancing moves. Each of these favorite spots on my list encapsulates a part of Miami’s diverse spirit, just as Springs & Slings Pilates encapsulates a thoughtful, community-driven approach to movement and wellbeing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have been very fortunate to have role models who have supported my endeavors. My mentor, Mrs Kathryn Ross Nash is one of them. She trained with the first generation teachers of Joseph Pilates, including Romana Kryzanowska, the woman who saved Pilates after Joseph’s passing and has been a transformative influence in my development. Her groundbreaking work and uncompromising commitment to excellence have fundamentally shaped my approach to teaching. Mrs. Nash is the creative force behind the globally recognized Professional Pilates Advanced Teacher Training (PPATT)-a program that raises the bar for what it means to be a true Pilates professional. Her high standards and innovative mindset pushed me to explore beyond traditional boundaries, constantly evolving my methods and deepening my understanding of the art and science of movement.

Under her guidance, I learned that mastery is not a destination but a continuous journey of growth, and that maintaining the integrity of our work is paramount. Her dedication to crafting a program that challenges complacency in learning and nurtures true expertise is nothing short of inspiring. I am immensely grateful for her mentorship, which not only enriched my skills but also instilled in me the verve to honor and carry forward the authentic legacy of Pilates.
