In our experience, most folks, including ourselves don’t have enough of an understanding of risk and the role it plays in our lives and careers and so we have made a concerted effort as a team to have conversations about risk with our interviewees. We’ve shared some highlights below.

I view risk as a necessary step toward growth and achievement. Without stepping outside of my comfort zone and challenging the status quo, it’s hard to discover new opportunities or reach one’s full potential. Growing up, I followed the conventional path—attending college, earning a Bachelor’s and a Masters degree, and securing a stable 9-to-5 job. This norm provided a solid foundation, and I’m grateful for the education and experience I gained. If you marry, you risk divorce; if you drive, you risk a car crash; if you have a job, you risk losing it. The point is, risk is inevitable, even if it varies in degrees. I believe it’s worthwhile to take risks that have the potential for high returns. Besides, you can mitigate risks through actionable steps, such as educating yourself.
