We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenny Valdes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenny, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
Psychology speaks to me in a uniquely, personal language. Migrating from Cuba at an early age challenged my character and all I once knew. Pursuing the American way of life triggered the desire for understanding and finding myself. Though there were moments in my life where the darkness outshined the light, I reached for inner strength as consolation and perseverance. In the midst of my vulnerability, I found myself. A curiosity in the supremacy of our minds’ control over our everyday roles and emotions marked the beginning of my interest in the field of psychology. Furthermore, my past experiences led me to recognize that coping with adversity takes effort and the study of psychology could provide me with the tools to better understand myself and serve as the beam of light to those who find themselves in life’s shadows. After gaining experience in the field, I aspire to open up my own practice where others’ voices, obstacles, and goals are professionally understood and valued. From my perspective, the mechanisms of psychology unite diverse individuals; it is the bridge that connects existence and understanding of one’s self and others.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As Latinas, we carry generations of strength, sacrifice, culture, and dreams within us. We are daughters of immigrants, storytellers, business owners, creators, educators, caregivers, and innovators. But too often, our voices go unheard — our stories overlooked, our dreams boxed into someone else’s narrative.

That’s why we’re building JENuinely Latinas — a brand born from our identity, made for Latinas to see themselves, speak freely, and dream boldly.

This is more than a platform — it’s a movement.

Here, we talk about our real lives: balancing ambition and tradition, breaking generational cycles, navigating the workplace, embracing our roots, and celebrating our cultures. We speak about the hopes that fuel us and the barriers we’re breaking every day. We create space for joy, struggle, healing, and growth — all through the lens of the Latina experience.

This is a brand that says: You belong. Your voice matters. And your dreams are valid.

Together, we’re not just dreaming — we’re building.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Miami isn’t just a city — it’s a feeling. It’s the rhythm of salsa echoing through the streets of Little Havana, the scent of fresh cafecito in the air, and the golden glow of a beach sunset that melts into a night full of music, flavor, and life.

Taking my best friend through my Miami was more than just a tour — it was a full-on experience. We started the day with a classic Cuban breakfast — café con leche and tostadas, of course — because nothing says “good morning” in Miami like buttery bread and strong coffee in Versailles.

We strolled through Little Havana, where the air smells like pastelitos and the sound of dominoes slapping on the table tells you you’re in the right place. I showed them Calle Ocho, the heart of our Cuban pride, where murals speak louder than words and every corner has a story.

Then it was time to hit the beach — because what’s Miami without sand between your toes? We soaked up the sun on South Beach, dipped into the clear turquoise water, and watched the palm trees sway like they were dancing to a reggaeton beat.

As the sun started to set, we headed to Wynwood to see art come alive. The walls were on fire with color, creativity, and culture. And when the lights went down, we turned up — because Miami nightlife doesn’t sleep. From rooftop views to dancing under the stars, we ended the night the way Miami always does: with music in our veins and joy in our hearts at Patio.

Showing my friend this city wasn’t just about the sights — it was about sharing the rhythm, the flavor, and the soul of where I come from.

Miami is more than a destination. It’s home. It’s heritage. It’s where the soul of Latin America beats loud and proud — and it’s where dreams, like mine, continue to grow.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My story begins with a dream — not just my own, but my family’s. When my family migrated from Cuba to America, it was with one hope: to give my sister and me the chance at a brighter future. They left behind everything they knew, armed only with courage, sacrifice, and the unshakable belief that we were meant for more.

My mom has been my strength. A warrior in every sense of the word, she’s poured her heart into guiding me, protecting me, and reminding me that I’m capable of achieving anything I set my mind to. My sister has walked beside me every step of the way — not just as family, but as my best friend and anchor when life felt uncertain.

And then there are the friends who’ve become family. The ones who’ve celebrated my wins and carried me through my lowest moments. Their love and support have lifted me when I couldn’t lift myself — reminding me that I am never alone in this journey.

I carry my roots, my people, and my story into everything I do. Every dream I chase is a reflection of the sacrifices made before me and the village that continues to hold me up.

This is for them. This is for us. And this is just the beginning.
