Becoming a wellness coach was never on my list of things to do in the past. I loved makeup and art and thought that was my calling. I worked for a Fortune 500 financial institution for 16 years before starting my business. Part of my job working in HR consisted of organizing and spear heading our company’s retirement benefit plan seminars. I had to book the rooms, work with vendors to get supply’s and products as well as secure the speakers. Working in benefits for large corporation can be very tedious at times but this was the part of my job that I excelled at. Ever since I could remember I always wanted to be a doctor. I made sure I dedicated most of my free time to studying and doing community service activities to fit the “well-rounded” image universities had of pre-med applicants. Becoming an entrepreneur just happened pretty naturally. It wasn’t a matter of wanting to be one, it simply came down to “well, this is the only way to achieve my goals.” So that’s what I did. I didn’t choose to become an entrepreneur necessarily — instead I just knew where I wanted my business to be, so I had to make decisions to make my vision a reality. That required dropping out college, working part-time at Dunkin’ Donuts, lots of (literally) sleepless nights, and so much more I never directly signed up for. It’s all just part of the trial.
