We had the good fortune of connecting with Maria Harrison and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maria, what is the most important factor behind your success?
There is a multitude of ingredients that go into making Bullseye Strategy a successful digital marketing and media agency. In short, we let our work speak for itself. Our clients care about results. That might be better search engine rankings that we have achieved through our search engine optimization efforts, a high return on ad spend or the stunning creative that receives outstanding engagement and reach on social media. To achieve outstanding results, we leverage cutting-edge technology. Most importantly, we have built an incredible culture and team synergized to achieve the best results for our clients. I attribute my success to being both partially hardwired and a product of my upbringing. I am fundamentally a classic Type A personality, always driving and striving to be better, leaving it all “on the court” every day. I had a very middle-class upbringing. My grandparents came to the United States from Italy, started a new life, learned a new language, and began many successful businesses, with little education and even less money. It illustrated that I didn’t need to attend a fancy school or require any seed capital to get off the ground. I just had to be tenacious, seek out like-minded people, and carry myself with integrity and professionalism in every situation. Connecting with like-minded professionals was actually a critical step toward success. I was able to become a founding board member for the South Florida Interactive Marketing Association, which then led to holding various roles in the organization, including President. I learned many valuable leadership and team-building skills in that position. I highly encourage young professionals to become involved with professional organizations in their areas of expertise and take an active role early in their careers.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Bullseye Strategy is a full-service digital marketing and media agency in Fort Lauderdale. We service a wide array of clients including real estate brokerages, DTC brands, eCommerce sites, international brands, B2B focused tech organizations, and more. If being found by potential customers, having your product purchased, or increasing your brand recognition is important to you, we can make you hit the bullseye with your marketing efforts by utilizing data-driven strategies customized for your KPIs. We’ve built a tight-knit and diverse team of experts in Search Engine Optimization, Digital Media, Social Media, and Digital Content that began in the throes of the great recession (we know, not the best time to open our doors) and has managed to continue growing through today. In the last two years, we’ve made the INC.5000 list twice and recently made the INC. Florida list. Bullseye has grown largely through word of mouth and referrals from happy clients. In an industry where the average client-agency relationship tenure is two years, we’re proud to have clients with us today that were with us on day 1 in 2009! We are only winning when our clients are winning! We’re very proud of the accomplishments we’ve achieved for both ourselves and our clients. It has definitely not been easy, and anyone who tells you it is isn’t being realistic. It’s been a challenge, and we’ve faced all kinds of challenges, including the recession, political turmoil, talent shortages in the industry, office space shortages in our area, and now a pandemic with a worsening economy. Through it all, the key to success is to just keep on trucking. You have to wake up every day ready to lead, ready to answer tough questions from clients and from our team. It doesn’t mean I always know the answer. I am always willing to listen and always trying to find ways to improve everything we do at the agency. We pride ourselves on investing in our team with tools, education, and training that keep us on the cutting edge of digital marketing, a very fast-paced and ever-changing environment.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m fortunate to live in a desirable travel-destination, so I receive guests ALL the time! And as an Orange Bowl Committee member, it’s my job to be the hostess with the mostess! First and foremost, we head to the shore! I prefer living in an area with a close connection to the sea. Naturally, many of my favorite places to visit locally with both in and out-of-town-guests are ocean-side. Hollywood beach is a favorite for its old-school charm, people-watching, and walking the Broadwalk. It has to be SOBE and Prime 112 to see and be seen for a wild night out. I adore Coconut Grove’s “old Florida” vibe that is married to modern glamour. And some of my favorite Italian food in S. Florida at Sappore di Mare. If the weather isn’t accommodating, we visit the Perez Art Museum. As a fan of contemporary art, I find their exhibits are spectacular. The setting is absolutely majestic, and the surroundings, even on a rainy day, are memory-makers. Hollywood Hard Rock Casino to taste a little of Vegas, and an Everglades tour for a little taste of natural Florida (if you’ve never seen an alligator up close and personal, you’re missing out.) Las Olas Boulevard in downtown Fort Lauderdale for dinner and drinks – Louis Bossi, YOLO, or S3 are always on point.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It definitely takes a village. No one is successful on their own. So many people deserve shout-outs here, beginning with my incredible partner, Jonathan Schwartz. Truly, I could not do this without him. He’s an outstanding producer, leader, manager, and visionary for the agency. We make a dynamite team because I am able to take his vision and put it into action. He’s also a master networker and schmoozer, which is not my forte, so that is helpful in building the business and deeper client relationships. I’ve already mentioned my upbringing, but as a single mom of two very busy kids, I absolutely could not do this without my parents. They are the world’s best grandparents, literally dropping everything and anything at all times to assist me with shuttling them around town to activities, preparing home-cooked meals, and even puppy sitting when I need them to! Last but not least, I need to recognize my entire professional network, most specifically in S. Florida. I’ve built a long career here, immersed myself in the community, and it’s paid huge dividends for me. After 23 years of digital and media marketing, people who know me understand that I do what I say I’ll do. That’s incredibly important in this world.
