We had the good fortune of connecting with Obsidian Concubine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Obsidian, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I think I’m at that crossroads where I want to pursue music professionally, but it’s not quite solidified yet. About a year ago, I met someone and, in a desperate attempt to impress them, I wrote and posted a freestyle about them on TikTok. They ghosted me shortly after, and I spiraled into a deep depression. I lost my job, couldn’t eat or sleep, and felt completely lost.
Then, unexpectedly, the TikTok video started gaining traction. My brother in Canada encouraged me to turn it into a full song, and other people echoed his suggestion. I decided to write the full track and use a free studio app to record it.
From there, I started experimenting with my voice and discovered a passion for creating EDM-style dance music. It’s been an unexpected journey, and I’m still exploring this new path.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m at that precipice, you know? Where passion is burning, but the leap into a full-blown career… well, it’s still a little daunting.
A year ago, I was just living my life, minding my own business, when I bumped into this guy. Suddenly, I was struck by this insane need to impress him. I went completely overboard, culminating in writing this ridiculous freestyle about him and posting it on TikTok for him to see. Classic.
He ghosted me. Poof. Gone. My world shattered. I couldn’t function. Lost my job. Depression hit me like a freight train. Couldn’t eat, couldn’t sleep, barely wanted to exist.
Then, that TikTok video… it exploded! My brother in Canada reached out, “Yo, my girl loves this! You gotta make a full track!” At first, I thought he was joking. But then, the video went viral, people were echoing his words. The universe was screaming at me.
Broke as a joke, I couldn’t afford a studio. So, I downloaded this cheap app, thinking it would be temporary. But something clicked. I started experimenting, pushing my voice, discovering I could create these wild, EDM-infused tracks. A whole new world opened up before me.
This is just the beginning. The journey has just begun.”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A week-long oh my goodness wow well definitely we can go shopping at Aventura mall that would be fun if they’re paying jk But definitely watr at the 1 hotel I love the boardwalk its so much fun we could do that after and then you know at night you know we hit a Ocean drive who go to twist you know if we really want to get wild we can head up north to Wilton Manor But Sundays I reserve for my dog Fifi we go to the beach or The many public dog parks in the area it depends

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom, Marjorie, music was her thing, but after having me and then my brother, we became her thing. Everything I do is to make her proud, because I love her in every way you possibly love a mother. And Big ups to my Voloco fam! That’s where I unlocked my vocal superpowers and met a crew of dope musicians. It’s the chillest spot to flex my sound and vibe to some serious independent heat. Shout out to Voloco for building this fire haven for creators.”
